Apple App Store price hike confirmed

I have had a look at the Apple App Store and most prices seem to have jumped from AUD$0.99 to AUD$1.29 confirming an email leaked from macrumors.com yesterday.

Apple has sited “unfavourable exchange rates” for the reason behind the price increase for Australian and other markets. No doubt with the senate enquiry into the “Australia Tax” casting a pall over the global tech industry still fresh in our minds there may be pressure on Apple to reconsider these increases sooner rather than later.

Users recognise the superior quality and range of Apps but still resent having to pay extra for a product that does not carry freight charges. The argument on poor exchange rates will no doubt also attract criticism as recent falls in exchange rates do not seem to keep up with the near 30% increase that came into effect earlier today.
